Five Minute Boyfriend
by Leah L. Cole
All angles and shadows suddenly you were there
Your knees pointing and feet pounding.
You were a new rhythm, your guitar filling the holes
Filling me up each day with yourself
Restrained by measure and audience
You are the music that is my blood.
You are me.
That night by my car
You ran your tongue over my name,
Stripping me naked of blemishes.
Your hands smoothed away
My inadequacies of race, education and class.
Moving to your rhythm
I become a shred of music under your lips
Flipping along the path of your breath
Lust the melody, emptiness the harmony
Backbeat of urgency
Curled up now in my hair that still smells like you
I am too electrified to sleep.
