Just Once

by Leah L. Cole

I wish just once
That I was golden skinned
Tall and thin
With flowing long skirts
And dainty feet in tiny slippers

And just once
I'd like to stand
In the cradle of the sun
Close to the tall dashing man
That comes to sweep me away

And just once
I'd like to dance till dawn
And feel the warm sunshine breezes
Off the Gulf of Mexico
And hear its primal call of longing
