"Long Way Home"
by Joseph McCombs
Already it's the end of August
The autumn seems like a cliffhanger
I wonder as I do my crosswords
Will you still be there in December?
I'm tired of mass transportation
I'd really like to settle down
I've seen twelve cities in this nation
I'd rather live in smaller towns.
My bus's name is "Time Forever"
The sign called "Furthur" was taken back
I wish the troupe had stayed together
It's just another thing I lack.
These miles away, I've learned my lesson
Some fruit don't fall far from the tree
I could be wrong, but here I'm guessing
What you really wanted was to be with me.
Already it's the end of August
Summer was too hot to remember
I will be heading your way, honest
And I will be there in December.
