Momentary Magic
by Leah L. Cole
Myriad colors
Circle my head
My vision blurs—
Is beautifully distorted
The world twists
And swims around me
Like a gull on a crosswind.
Understanding pushes in on me,
My awareness is acute.
I sense everything,
And the only reason I won't
Collapse under the
Weight of the world
Is the tremendous expansion
Inside my chest
Exultantly pushing back.
I never want the
Wonder
I feel to fade.
I stand rooted to the spot.
Already the life is
Bleeding away but not
Forgotten.
I am myself again
But that split second has
Been exquisitely etched in my memory.
