Of What Might Be
by Leah L. Cole
"I'm so damned tired of crying."
The brokenness of your voice and
The hidden pain in your eyes is
An image that will always haunt me
I wish I could take it all away from you.
Yet I don't have the strength to
Sacrifice all I must
To cleanse you of this blackness.
Do I have the right to choose
My happiness over your oblivion?
You are so shattered
So alone.
I want be your reason
To live each day into the next
That you may survive this time until
The crushing pain dulls to an endurable
Agonizing ache.
If only that singular reason
Not to let go of your life
Could just once be because of someone who
Would give so much to snatch you back
From the edge of this deathly cliff.
Could just once be
Me.
The indecision taunts me
I may give it all to buy your life back
You'll lift your eyes to me in new
Realitization
And you may not want me.
