Just a Minor Obsession

by Joseph McCombs

I've been way too occupied with you these days.
I've foregone my novel and let my dishes pile up in the sink.
The cats haven't been fed in three weeks and I think they're wilting.
I keep putting my cigarettes out on the couch because I can't
     remember where the ashtrays are.
I crossed Market on red. Twice. Once coming and once going.
The last book I read turned out to be a new box of index cards.
I went to the DMV and put your name on the application.

And the sad thing is, I don't even love you anymore.
