Isn't This Getting Old?
by Joseph McCombs
9 TV screens all show the same scene:
remnants of an hour-old hockey game.
23 patrons are still waiting
for some new show -- but it stays the same.
7 songs play from the Wurlitzer DJ,
reminding everyone of high school days.
23 patrons are still waiting
for some new songs -- but they stay the same.
5 people gather -- I think I'd rather
steer clear from the glory stories they claim.
23 patrons are still waiting
for some new tales -- but they stay the same.
3 people try to say goodnight
but they're talked into one more cricket game.
23 patrons are still waiting
for some new action -- but it stays the same.
1 more drink makes me start to think
if I hang out too long, I'll come to live this way.
23 patrons are still waiting
for some new life -- but it stays the same.
