In These Quiet Times
by Joseph McCombs
This rapturous melody
always eludes me at the opportune moments
instead showing itself
in glimpses on buses or as a brush with dream
and in these quiet times
when pen glides to paper and mind flourishes
a lifetime of thoughts
become knowable in only unknowable words
so when one dark day
you become disillusioned with so little to say
please remind yourself
that silence is one half of listening
