Ruminations Aboard the Red Line

by Joseph McCombs

every chance we take
is infinity minus one
chances we decline

and the people we know
pale in comparison
to the ones we don't

but that shouldn't stop us
from taking chances
or from knowing people

unless you'd rather
play the odds
to the end

every time we speak
there's that much less silence
through which we can observe

and whenever we move
we create a chaos
in the universe

but that shouldn't stop us
from speaking up
or from moving on

unless the stillness
agrees with you
to the end
