"Settle Down"
by Joseph McCombs
Thursday morning, nine o'clock, I was preparing for a date with you.
Have lunch at Sarah's, see a movie, maybe catch the lakeside view.
"No strings attached," we both agreed, and I tried very hard to believe
That it was true...
Well, I've had a lot of fun these days
And it's been a joy to be free,
But I have often wondered if you might
Settle down with me...
Friday night, we went to dinner, I said words you did not want to hear.
You left that night in awkward silence and I left in silent tears.
A couple days have passed since then, though I could swear
That it's been years...
I'm tempted to apologize,
But that's not my cup of tea;
I never thought it was a bad idea for you to
Settle down with me...
I'm tempted to apologize,
But that's not my cup of tea;
I never thought it was a bad idea for you to
Settle down with me...
People talk about the truth,
They say the truth shall set you free.
Well, I don't really know about that;
I only know what it's done to me.
