Society

by F.E.B.

Misery, suffering, pain and hate
have all become the talk of late.
The world seems full of hurt and woe,
but from where it comes we do not know.

Money, power, glory and fame,
are these the goals for which we aim?
We say the world is full of envy and greed,
but these do not our lives lead.

Famine, pestilence, plaque and war
we see in the magazines at the store.
For one brief moment we feel shock and rage,
then forget it all as we turn the page.

Murder, theft, accidents and poverty
we see in the images of our T.V.
We feel pity, or so we say,
but did we help the beggar that we met today?

It is not so much what we say as what we feel.
It is not so much what we feel as what we do.
This is the key to who we are
and what the world will become.
