The Only Sonnet I'll Ever Write
by Leah L. Cole
Gulls crying forlornly far out o'er the frothy sea
On the horizon dark shadows begin to form
Waiting for dusk, dreading nightfall, hushed expectantly
Obsidian midnight skulks before the storm
See the sullen clouds of darkness flooding in
Too late to escape the roiling storms of thunder
The tempest breaks—raging and tearing, master wind
'Midst rain and lightning, looses his fury, tears asunder
I fight the instinct to give up and die
Alone, I keep the destructive forces inside.
