Portland Humpin' Hash Guide to Haring

Note: These are only guidelines, use them as you will...

You have $100 to Spend use it wisely!!!

Picking a Location

The ideal location has easy parking is near everyone's house, has great shiggy, spectacular views, a bar with good beer and loose women... Of course this rarely exists, try and find at least a few of these traits in the area you set your hash. Hump Hashes are typically A to A or A to A' (Where the On-In location is a short jaunt from the meeting area.) This way there is no need for a B-Van and late arrivers are not stranded cold at the On-In. If you do decide to do an A to B, let everyone body know ahead of time so they can bring a dry bag. Once you have decided on a start, email portlandh4@yahoo.com to have it added to the website, hash trash, and hashline.

Responsibilities of the Hares

As a hare you are responsible for the following things: Picking up the hash cooler and keg from the prior hare the Wednesday before your hash. This means, you should go to the hash the week before! Take an inventory of what is left in the cooler and buy what is needed. Show up for your hash!!! Set an killer trail. After Religion, clean up, yep that is what those trashbags are for, and give the cooler, keg, and tap to the next weeks hare.

What to Buy

Hares will be reimburse for up to $100 of their spending on the hash. This should be enough to buy a 1/2 barrel keg of microbrewed beer from Portland Brewing Co., chips, soda, water, cups, trashbags, flour, down-down beer, etc. Unless you expect an unusually large crowd, 1/4 barrel keg of Microbrews, 2 bags of chips, 12-pack of down-down beer should do. Note: your reimbursement is $100, but even as the hare, you need to pay your $5 for the hash. To get reimbursed, give your receipts to the hash cash.

Getting the Keg

The Hump Hash has a deal with Portland Brewing Company to purchase 1/2 barrel kegs for $75. Just tell them you are with the Portland Humpin Hash. (This includes ice and cups, you just have to ask for them.) We have a tap and bucket. They normally have a case special of beer for $15 that works well for beer check beer. Call Beer-to-Go at 503-228-8265. Let them know what type of beer you would like and when you need it. To pickup the keg go to 2730 NW 31st Ave. in Portland. (It is two buildings behind the restaurant. If you get lost ask for directions at the restaurant.) They are open from 8am to 6pm.

Setting the Trail

Set trail using the marks that the Humpin Hash and Oregon Hash are used to. By using marks that are specific to some other hash, you just tend to loose the pack. For a great guide to setting a trail visit here.

Check

Trail must goes in any direction. (Or just an X.) Note: Putting a dimple of flour at the cross of the X is helpful for the pack to mark the check.

Check

Back Check

Trail veres off somewhere between here and the last check.

Back Check

False Trail

Wrong way, go back to the last check. (May also be three drops of flour or an 'F'.)

Beer Check

Hopefully this is pointing to a twelver of Full Sail.

True Trail

You are going the right way. (Only the hares should put this type of arrow.)

Beer is in the area, you can almost taste it.

Turkey Eagle Split

Often told at Tough and Easy by deceptive hares! 'E' leads off to a harder trail, 'T' is more straight forward. (Not Tough and Easy!)
