Since I am commuting about 2.5 hours a day, I decided I needed to make the box portable. I went to Radio Shack and got one of these remote control car 8 AA packs, and a charger, for about 70 dollars total. The output voltage was 9.6 volts, which had me a little concerned because the ER-1 only wants 9 volts. I was also concerned about the battery pack supplying ~1 amp of power for the 8 watt ER-1. A little bit of wire cutting, splicing and soldering later... ...it works great. From one charge, I can leave the ER-1 on for at least 4-5 hours. This morning on Cal Train I made about 5 fresh new patterns. Can't wait for the ride home... :) -troy ps: the ER-1 continues to impress the hell out of me. I have an ES-1 and everything works perfectly (so far). I used the same setup at was listed at http://www.slackers.net/~skoop/Music/Gear/Electribe/ but with a few changes. Here's a breakdown of what I got: $15 9.6 Volt NiCd 1000mAh battery $60 Turbo AC/DC recharger $2 6' Adaptaplug Power Cord $2 Adaptaplug series 'N' connector $2 9.6V RC Connector ----- $81 Total I didn't have to solder anything. The RC connector has crimping ends to it. So I took the 6' cord, cut off one of the ends and crimped it to the RC connector. That then plugged right onto the battery and I attached the 'N' connector to the end of the power cord. I just bought my ES-1 today because I'm going on a 6 hour flight tomorrow and I wanted something to play with. I'll let you know how long the power works on the flight. Alex.
